Michael Williams's primary areas are governmental law and financial transactions. He has represented banks, underwriters, trustees and various governmental entities in public financings throughout the southeast. Williams began his legal career at the law firm of King & Spalding LLP, where for three years he worked on the firm’s public finance team, helping cities and counties throughout Georgia with their capital finance needs. While at King & Spalding, he also worked with the firm’s governmental affairs team.
Williams has over fifteen years of federal legislative experience. Most recently, Williams served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Denise Majette. He has previously worked as a legislative assistant in the Washington, DC offices of Senator Sam Nunn and Senator Max Cleland, where he specialized in defense and national security matters, working extensively with the Senate Armed Services Committee. He has taught National Security Law at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and has previously been a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
In 2004, he was elected to represent the 4th Congressional District of Georgia as an alternate delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts.
Williams obtained his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University in 1999. He was a President’s Scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received a degree in International Affairs with highest honor in 1992. He was also a National Science Foundation Fellow at Stanford University, where he received his master’s degree in Political Science in 1993.
He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Boy Scouts of America, and Girl Scouts of the USA. He also serves as a board member for the Georgia Tech International Affairs Alumni Network and is a former board member of the Georgia State Society.
